Harrison Hot Springs Hotel

open book6 years after the St.Alice fire the rebuilt hotel had a new name, a new site and a new image. Now called the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel,it was located slightly to the east of the old St. Alice. Under the new ownership of  Harrison Hot Springs Hotel Company (with A.D. Anderson as president and Col. J.F. Keen as secretary-treasurer) the whole emphasis of the hotel shifted. Whereas the old St. Alice had been very much a health spa, the new hotel saw itself more as part of pleasure resort. Whereas the St. Alice had capitalized on the medical value of the hot springs, the new hotel, while still advertising as the ‘Spa of Canada’, was looking for a wider clientele of tourists and holiday-makers. Every sort of entertainment was offered- a large billiard room, a Jacobean ball-room, tennis courts, bowling-green, riding-stables and facilities for trap-shooting, hunting, fishing and boating – but the major new attractions were a golf course and an up-to-date swimming-pool.
